Although Independence from Spain was first declared on the 25th of May in 1810, it actually took 6 years of war until the delegation met in Buenos Aires to formally sign the Declaration of Independence on 9 July 1816.
The event is now celebrated every year with parades, military exhibitions and an abundance of Argentine flags.
